"Mizu To Ikiru" empowers all Suntory Group employees to create new value for our customers and for society as a whole. We spoke with a member of our corporate affairs team to learn how Suntory Beverage & Food contributes to Thai society and encourages its employees to think like entrepreneurs.

1. Please introduce yourself, what is your current position?
My name is Mathuvalee Stithyudhakarn. I am the Corporate Affairs Director of Suntory Beverage & Food (Thailand) Co., Ltd. and my responsibilities include corporate communications and CSR, media and public relations, and government and regulatory affairs. The first part of my role is to build our corporate reputation as a leading Health Enrichment Company. The rest involves maintaining good relations with external stakeholders such as media and press, trade associations and industries, technical and medical professions, authorities and local communities. Suntory Beverage & Food products have unique health benefits that are supported by scientific research, which requires me to continuously expand my knowledge and consider the best ways to communicate our values and social contribution.

2. What are the main characteristics of Suntory Beverage & Food as a company, in your view?
Suntory Beverage & Food is a company which is full of innovative knowledge while preserving traditional culture and lifestyles. The corporate value "Yatte Minahare"* is the DNA of all employees which drives us forward in the same direction and allows us to think differently. I think I could describe characteristics of Suntory Beverage & Food as the words "innovative and value living."
3. What is the most enjoyable part of your job, and why?
The business and regulatory environment is rapidly changing and we have seen the dynamic growth of social networks and a trend towards health and environmental concerns. Due to these factors, I have seen a lot of new opportunities to communicate our message to our stakeholders easier and more quickly than before. We can create many contents and deliver them to the audience more frequently while getting immediate feedback. Thus, every message we send to the public should be clear, concise, and positive. At the same time, digital tools have become more fun to use. We can educate audiences through games, movies, and so on. I feel excited every time we come up with a way to communicate challenging ideas clearly with a video clip or infographic. That is my pleasure!
4. What drives you on an individual level? What is the most enjoyable part of your job, and why?
I personally enjoy working in a company that employs many smart people with expertise, as I can learn new things while also having my own ideas challenged. I also want to come up with new ideas and test them. Fortunately, Suntory Beverage & Food encourages us to propose new ideas and take ownership of them. Since my job is to build our company reputation, I have many chances to propose new ideas to help us meet our goals. For example, I can partner with medical and nutrition experts to share scientific knowledge with the public through exhibitions and seminars. The company also supports cooperation among industries to build more networks and alliances in doing business, which helps me to achieve my work targets more efficiently.
5. Suntory employees are encouraged to move freely like water with the spirit of "Yatte Minahare." What does this mean to you?
In my opinion, "Yatte Minahare" is the spirit of an entrepreneur which allows you to work for success and set ambitious targets. For example, once I was challenged to register a new product formula in a very limited time. The given timeline was very short compared to normal, and this new formula contained one new ingredient which Thai authorities had not yet approved for use in this type of product. Since we had no time to go step by step, my team decided to apply for product registration while gathering as many reference documents as we could to prove the safety of this new ingredient. We also asked for help from all relevant internal functions and external suppliers to share knowledge and similar cases to ours. Finally we got approval on the product registration and it is now on supermarket shelves. My team and I are very proud that we could introduce the first food product for kids in Thailand that can benefit from this new ingredient. We could not do this without trust and empowerment from management and colleagues. This shows how "Yatte Minahare" drives us to achieve great new things.
6. Suntory has "Giving back to society" as its value. How is Suntory Beverage & Food contributing to Thai society?
Reflecting the Suntory value of "Giving back to society," Suntory Beverage & Food Thailand has long been committed to enhancing Thai people's quality of life, especially in education and health. Many of our CSR projects have been recognized for a long time for their benefits to Thai society. For many years we donated aluminum caps to be recycled into prosthetic legs. We started BRAND'S Summer Camp, which has helped over one million Thai students prepare for the national university entrance examination. We have also supported the Red Cross to recruit young people to make blood donations for more than 20 years. Another CSR project which is well recognized is our research awards and funding for medical professionals, pharmacists or nutritionists in Thailand.
