Suntory Beverage & Food Thailand holds beach cleaning activity to create sustainable community

Employees of Suntory Beverage & Food International (Thailand) Co., Ltd., Na Jomtien Municipality and local volunteers held an activity to clean Baan Amphoe Beach in Chonburi on 16 August 2019. The beach cleaning was intended to help preserve the natural beauty of the coastal landscape and protect marine life by reducing ocean pollution, reflecting the company's promise of "Mizu To Ikiru" and mission to create harmony with people and nature.

This activity was aimed at promoting awareness of the importance of the natural environment and water, a precious resource used in our company operations and in the daily lives of employees and local volunteers. Mizuiku program content was introduced in this activity to emphasize that water is essential for life. Before participants began clearing the beach of trash, environmental authority officers shared knowledge and practices of waste separation for recycling and how to manage plastic and foam packaging. Participants learned how difficult it can be to dispose of plastic waste, and how to encourage people to change their behavior by switching to environmentally friendly packaging so as to help keep the beach clean and trash-free.

During this event, participants also learned how Suntory Beverage & Food designs packaging that minimizes environmental impact by using raw materials that help reduce carbon dioxide as well as eliminating waste by promoting reuse or recycling of packaging. One example is BRAND'S gift basket made of polypropylene that is 100% recyclable along with the base and ears of the basket that are processed from recycled plastic. As for the bottles used to contain BRAND'S products, the thickness of the glass has been reduced and less material has been used to make the package lighter. This can help reduce trash from packaging and conserve natural resources while maintaining the strength of the packaging to safeguard the products inside.

Since the disposal of plastic waste in our seas is degrading the shoreline environment and affecting the balance of nature, activities like this are vital in order to increase public awareness of the problem and ensure a more sustainable co-existence with nature.

Suntory Beverage & Food has set a goal for sustainable environmental development and is pushing for a change in consumer behavior to minimize the use of plastic packaging and maximize recycling. By promoting such change as well as properly managing plastic waste in marine environments, Suntory Beverage & Food hopes to restore the abundance of marine and beach resources for Thailand.
